Pitcher & Catcher School

 

 

 
  • Summary:
    • This session is designed for athletes who desire intensive and in-depth instruction in the skills and psychology of pitching and catching.
    • Pitching instruction includes all components of speed and power through quality mechanics. Moving pitches (rise, drop, curve, off-speed) are also taught. Pitchers receive personalized instruction with great attention to detail.
    • Catching instruction includes stance, pick-offs, receiving, framing, blocking, passed balls, tag plays, bunts, and pop-ups.
    • Pitchers and catchers learn how to call and pitch a game, how to read a hitter and about the importance of mental and physical strength and fitness.
    • Hitting and fielding instruction is also provided at each session.
    • Enrollment is strictly limited to 80 pitchers and 50 catchers.

  • Rates:
    • On Campus Resident: $475. (On campus players stay in UMASS dorms)
    • Off campus Commuter: $400. (Off campus players commute daily to sessions)

  • Pick-up Time & Location:
    • Wednesday, July 16, 2008 @ 11:00 am
    • Location: UMass Softball Complex
    • 11:00 am:  Camp Olympics Begin* at UMass Softball Complex - Parents are highly encouraged to attend. 
    • 11:30 am:  Closing Ceremony / Players released to dormitory for checkout.
    • In the event of rain, camp olympics/pickup will be in the Boyden Gymnasium.
       
  • Late Check-in:
    • Arrangements for tournament players can be made. Contact the UMass Softball Office At 413-545-9588.
       
  • Off-Campus Commuters:
    • Off Campus Commuters should be dropped off at the UMASS Softball Complex each day between 8:30AM - 8:45AM. They should be picked up at the UMASS Softball Complex each day at 8:30PM. Off-Campus Commuters will be served lunch and dinner each day.
       
  • Age and Experience:
    • Athletes will be grouped by age and experience and must be at least 10 years
      of age or older to be an On Campus Resident.

7:30 AM Wake Up
8:00 AM Breakfast (On Campus Students in UMASS Dining Hall)
8:30 - 8:45 AM Drop-off for Commuting Students
9:00 AM Morning Session
11:45 AM Lunch in UMASS Dining Hall
1:15 PM Afternoon Session
4:30 PM Dinner in UMASS Dining Hall
6:30 PM Evening Session
8:30 PM Commuter Pick-up; Return to dorm.
